Lab worries...
As all of my fellow coursemates hav known, 1 of the experiments (grignard) had collapsed during last week's lab session. As I am gg to be doing tt expt this week, I went to research a little further to prepare myself for the lab. I happened to passby a lab manual of another acedemic insitute of the same expt. before they started writing the procedure, this is wat they wrote:
"As in any work, this experiment may not succeed the first time; be prepared to repeat it from the beginning. On the second try, you should be able to work much more efficiently and with more understanding. "
I do think tt NTU should add the simple 2-3 sentences in our manual too. For the past 1 yr plus in CBC, I had seen a lot of ppl who panic a lot when they hav no or low yield. or they simply panic when their progress slower or somewhere in the middle, sth differs.
it is such a simple theory that everybody knows but no one believes in or should i say, dun want to believe in. but, sometimes, we dun want to believe oso cannot. marking our marks down when our yield is low, even when we explained y our yield is low? or even worse, when the whole lab had low yield! i think it really comes down to whether u want the marks or u want to really learn from the expt at the end of the day.
