Down the Memory Lane
• Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:41 AM •

After talking to Pui Yoke about our primary school days together on Saturaday night, I decided to look up for a photo that we took together as a class back then. While digging deep into the box for the photo, I passed by all the precious stuff I once held on dearly, as if I just walked down the memory lane... Thus, I decided to take pictures of them and blog down this special memory lane... Those sweet memories...

The first two pictures show the class photos of my pre-school... Those were the days I got really pampered. I remembered how innocent we were back then, not like the kids nowadays. Those were the days when the teachers say that there were dinosaurs walking outside and we really believed it but only to know that those "foot steps" were caused by piling of floor during constructions when we grow up. Those were also the days when we trust our parents 100%. Those days that we really believe that they will sell us to karang guni if we dun behave ourselves... All of which, the kids nowadays wun believe...

Those were also the days when we don't have any computers. We play with our friends with toys and going to playground to play is one of the happiest things in life. When TV consoles like Sega and bulky Gameboy came out, everybody wishes to have one but yet not all can afford. Thus, friends get together to do homework together before taking turns to have a go at the consoles, while our mums played their mahjong together. Those were the days...

This is the photo that I'm looking for after mentioning about it over dinner with Pui Yoke! This is my primary 3 class photo. This is taken before the era of compulsory class photo taking every year. Thus, this is just taken by a normal camera. Both this photo and the one below are taken with two of my favourite teachers of that time, Mr C. Sebastian and Ms Tan S.C. respectively. Both of them guided me a lot both academically and emotionally. I'm who I am today, partially thanks to them. If I had not met the both of them, I might still be a bad tempered person I used to be...

After my studies in Jiemin Primary, I got into Peirce Sceondary alone, with no friends accompanying me. But then, 旧的不去,新的不来... I know a whole new bunch of friends, built and fostered new friendships. The very highlight is my last year in there, where a lot of things happened. Especially my 16th birthday, where there is a lot of "unexpected"s happens. (I shan't elaborate since I remembered writing about it before)

After Secondary school, I went on to pursue a Diploma in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. And again, I went over alone again without anyone. Seriously, this is my most stress free stage of my life till now. I don't have to worry academically. Even though I worked hard, I feel happy doing them. Doing all sorts of weird shapes posters, retrieving river water, sloughing in the swimming complex of NP and the endless nights for various projects. Every single one I complained while doing them, but yet we always had laughers while doing them, every one will hav their own set of memories set in my head. But, I worked hard but I played harder. I mapled, I watched shows, I chatted with friends till middle of the night... Went for lectures and never really paid attentions...

Just because we went through the thicks and thins together for the 3 years, the friendships we fostered are strong. Till today, even though some of us studying, some working, we still arrange for meet ups often to keep in contact with each other... =D

After poly, here I am, studying Chemistry & Biological Chemistry in NTU. It's really different from what I do in NP, be it the things learnt and the method of learning/studying. From the collectivelistic learning culture to the individualistic culture, it is proven hard to adjust initially. But still, along the way, friends are made from totally different backgrounds...

Birthday card that flew all the way from Taiwan!!!

All these years, there's one special friend who accompanied me all the years since we know each other in primary school. These letters are a portion of them that I had kept that is writen by her, Pui Yoke. After primary school, we had lesser chance to meet each other since both of us had moved out of Yishun. Throughout my Secondary/Poly life, this is how we kept in touch with each other, keeping each other updated. The letters had evolved over the years, from handwritten to computer-printed. It's just a unique memory, I mean, how many people had actually written letters to their friend/s. But also, the elatedness when you received a letter from your friend and 迫不及待 to open the letter to read... XD

Through all these letter writing, we managed to kept in contact with each other even though we met each other once a year. Why once, some people might ask. Cause our birthdays are only one day after the other, so we celebrated them together all these years. And that's the only day we used to meet. But now, once in a while, we'll meet of cause.
