Fantastic IA experience...

Just ended my IA yesterday! An enjoyable one with lotsa differences from my previous IA in Nestle which I did to fulfill during poly... This time round, there is one whole bunch of fun-loving NTU-ians doing together and we are grouped together in a office! So lotsa things actually happened and done even though all of us are under different supervisors/department/projects...

We started not knowing each other, with 5 different academic background (CBC, MSE, ENV, BIE, CBE). I remember how we had only mixed with our own course mates in the 1st wk but gradually, it had became one big group (due to the lucky dudes who have each other as partners, which I don't have)! Soon, we have to always find the longest table to sit during lunchtime to accomodate everyone.

It's really cool how we managed to bond together so fast. We managed to convince most of the group to wear red on the last day b4 we went for our CNY break (which is like the end of wk 2 only!). Soon after that, Eleanor kick start our outings and be the first organiser and brings us to Johor for paintball and food...

Although only half of the NTU gang went for the Johor trip, all of us are eagerly wanting to have more outings... And continously, we had various outings from badminton to movies to just a simple dinner... From there, our bonds grows tighter and tighter...

Other then outings, we also had lotsa happenings in ICES itself, especially towards the end. We started to have almost daily monopoly deal, table tennis and badminton sessions after all of us handed in our reports.

Friends aside, when it comes to work, I don't deny that I sort of think whether I had made the right choice of project as my supervisor aka boss had only continuously asked me to read literatures after literatures for the 1st 3 weeks... I'm starting to get depressed when all my friends starts their project one by one hands on in their respective labs except me. Finally, my boss called me down to the lab to familiarise the work with Joshua (NP intern who is leaving soon). The 'mini research group' includes also Algin, who is our mentor. After some chatting, it is really amazing how the 3 of us are linked. Joshua was from NP CBE and thus, being my junior and Algin was from NTU CBC, which makes her my senior. Such a small world har?  Not long after the handing over, it is time for Joshua to say goodbye as his attachment ends.

Which left only the 2 of us! At first, we weren't that close at all... But as time goes by, we 2 got closer and closer... At the same time, we seems to be doing gift exchange all these while. I'll get a share when she bakes, if she remember, and I'll just get what she needs. We cared for each other when we took turns to get sick. And we crapped a lot...

The things she baked that I've get to taste (I've missed out taking a pic of the choc cake)

The things I've given her (There's another stool for her to climb that is not in this pic)

I felt fortunate to have such a mentor to guide me. She's also a friend and a sister who cares when I fell sick and when there are chemical splashes. When she heard about stuff about my future boss, she passed down the message to me. She also keeps asking about the progress of application/interview and also how far I've written the book chapter boss had tasked me to do.

Last friday, I am one of the few who is leaving as most of them are extending their IA. But still, as it is the official date, gift exchange still takes place and it seems like a party (cos a lot of food). I had also bought gifts for Algin and boss... And of cos, we took pictures together...

First to come in, from my mentor. Self-baked cookies + self-blended orange juice!

The amount of stuff we bought/brought for each other (not all of them are in though)

The stuff that I've received from everybody

Boss & me (I gave him long jing tea leaves & thank you card, nv take a pic)

Algin & me (With the picture, which she took, of the gifts I gave to her)

All in all, I really had a great time during this attachment although the start is a rough one. I'll definitely going to miss those times. See most of you in July when I go back to work as Research Engineer... 跟mentor平起平坐咯~

PS: Some of the pictures are taken from Jesslyn's blog (deejesslove.blogspot.com) and others are from facebook of my friends and mentor and mine)
